With an extensive concert promotion career spanning four decades, Barb worked side-by-side with Hawaiʻi’s legendary DJ and entrepreneur Tom Moffatt on a host of private and ticketed events including some of the largest concerts ever held in the state. She’s also the foremost contractor for Asian market “concert tourism” to the islands, working with JTB, Hawaiʻi Tourism Japan, ANA and more. Barb is also a veteran MMORPG designer/operations manager and website designer.

From the Waikīkī Shell to Carnegie Hall…making music and events for over three decades. Janet can be found wearing many hats at Hawai`i’s top entertainment events, including the Mākaha Bash, Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and the City & County of Honolulu’s Sunset on the Beach presentations such as the world premiere of Hawai`i Five-0 and Lost.

Mission:

The Venues and Artists Committee is an interface within the Live Events community in Hawaiʻi, serving venue operators and staff as well as the many talented artists who are facing extreme circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though venues are working on various projects as they can, their revenues will not return to any pre-pandemic level until each island has exited the tier structure to allow a capacity crowd to gather. For them, the concern is to keep maintenance, janitorial, box office, ushering, caterers and parking attendants employed.

Tied to venues, we have the last group of residents who will head back to meaningful work in their fields – our artist ohana of dancers, actors, musicians, comedians, etc. While all are struggling, this sector is extremely supportive of each other; this committee’s goal is to support those efforts to the fullest extent we can.

HELPFUL TIPS

06/23/21 – The National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA, has been working diligently throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to advance the causes of both venues and promoters. Today, they released two documents for use by all venues and ticket printers/sellers in the U.S.

Written and reviewed by NIVA’s own attorneys at Akin-Gump, the document provides the proper language for both a COVID-19 liability waiver and a ticket disclaimer (printed on the back of a ticket) that includes the appropriate COVID-19 wording.
